PETG Basic Overview

Core Advantages of PETG Material
●Excellent Optical & Mechanical Performance
PETG offers a light transmittance of over 90% and outstanding UV resistance, effectively preventing long-term yellowing. Its impact resistance is far superior to acrylic and ordinary PET. It remains intact without cracking or stress whitening during low-temperature bending. With low molding shrinkage, PETG products feature stable dimensional accuracy and low warpage rate, ensuring consistent finished quality.
●Food-grade & Medical-grade Safety Compliance
PETG contains no BPA or harmful phthalates and has obtained FDA and EU food contact certifications. It supports EO sterilization and gamma ray sterilization, fully meeting strict standards for medical and maternal & baby scenarios. Moreover, it produces no toxic fumes during combustion, achieving eco-friendly and safe application.
●Great Chemical Resistance & Easy Maintenance
The material resists alcohol, disinfectants, grease, weak acids and weak bases. It will not fog or crack after frequent wiping and disinfection, making it ideal for high-cleanliness scenarios such as cosmetics packaging and medical supplies.
●Flexible Processing & Recyclable Performance
PETG adapts to most plastic molding processes and supports secondary processing including screen printing, hot stamping, bonding and hot bending. It can be recycled through the existing PET recycling system, fully complying with global environmental protection and sustainable development policies.
●Material Limitations
Standard PETG has a heat resistance of 70~85℃ and cannot withstand long-term boiling water immersion. Its surface is prone to scratching. Compared with PVC and ordinary PET, PETG has a higher raw material cost and requires dehumidification and drying treatment before processing.

Wide Industrial Applications of PETG
●Packaging Industry (Largest Application Market)
PETG has become the ideal substitute for PVC in packaging fields. It is widely used for cosmetic bottles, skincare containers, cosmetic shell accessories, food fresh-keeping boxes, cold drink cups, prefabricated food blister trays, heat-shrink labels and transparent packaging films. Driven by global plastic restriction policies, more food and beauty brands are switching to eco-friendly PETG packaging materials.
●Medical & Healthcare Industry
With sterilizable performance and low precipitation characteristics, medical-grade PETG is commonly used for blood collection tubes, pipette tips, reagent bottles, medical face shields and outer packaging of sterile medical consumables. With the booming export of domestic medical devices, the market demand for medical-grade PETG continues to grow year by year.
●Consumer Electronics & New Energy Vehicles
PETG is applied in Bluetooth earphone shells, equipment observation windows and transparent instrument accessories. In new energy vehicles, it is used for interior lampshades, transparent decorative parts and storage panel components. Its excellent disinfectant corrosion resistance solves the problem of easy aging and cracking of acrylic materials under long-term sunlight exposure.
●Advertising & Home Decoration Display
PETG is widely used for supermarket display boards, light boxes, indoor partitions and household transparent storage panels. It can be thermoformed into special-shaped structures with stable outdoor weather resistance, greatly reducing the maintenance cost caused by acrylic fragmentation and aging.
●3D Printing & Other Fields
As a mainstream FDM 3D printing filament, PETG features high toughness and stable molding effect, suitable for tooling parts, customized shells and model printing. It is also widely used in high-end toys and transparent stationery products.

Industry Development Trend & Processing Solution
Benefiting from balanced transparency, superior impact resistance, high safety and flexible processability, PETG has established itself as a high-universality high-end transparent polyester material. With increasingly stringent global environmental policies and continuous restrictions on PVC usage, PETG’s substitution rate for traditional plastics keeps rising, showing growing application value in packaging, medical treatment, electronics, new energy vehicles, home furnishing and 3D printing industries.
